THE ALCHEMICAL SIDE OF AMORC
Saturday, November 28, 2009 at 07:35PM In the March/April 1988 edition of the Rosicrucian Digest, there is a very interesting article called “Chinese Alchemy: A Search for Immortality,” which speaks about the wei tan- or external method for attaining immortality- and the nei tan- or internal search. Wei tan- involved external methods- like diet, breathing techniques and medicinal elixirs to prolong life. Nei tan involved complex meditative processes- of which the martial art, Tai Chi Tuan- is like a mirror of internal processes.
Immortality has always fascinated me and, in one respect, Eastern and Western alchemy- in regards of the external discipline- both have attempted to extend earthly existence with the object of giving more time for the alchemist to finish the Magnum Opus, the creation of the Philosopher’s Stone. In a Fall 1991 interview with alchemist and AMORC MEMBER, Jack Glass, in the Rosicrucian Digest, he speaks of the classes revolving around plant, mineral and metallic alchemy- as well as the production of alchemical medicinals.
The Chinese alchemists, as I mention in AMORC UNMASKED believed in literal immortality, giving the example of the translation or ascension of the alchemist, Ge Xuan. His disappearance is similar to that of many stories of ascension- like that of Jesus- where the immortal reaches a state of vibration where he literally leaves the Earth plane, taking his body with him. This is not an official AMORC possibility.
