THE ASCENT OF CHRISTIAN BERNARD

On August 7th, 1990, Christian Bernard assumed the mantle of Imperator under a very fragile moment for AMORC. Not only had the Order been racked by an upheaval by the termination of Gary Stewart as Imperator as ordered by the Supreme Council, but funds for a variety of reasons were extremely low and this was partially, attributed, at the time, to the actions of Gary Stewart. In a Special 1991 edition of the Forum, a Q&A section addressed the question: How could something like this happen to AMORC? Isn’t the Imperator cosmically guided? Part of the answer was:

We are all potentially cosmically guided. All of us can potentially attune with Cosmic Guidance, but whether or not we follow its promptings, its inspirations, is a matter of individual choice. We can choose to reach for and attune with Cosmic Guidance to help us through the tests and trials, the pitfalls, of life. Or we can choose to ignore the higher promptings and spend all of our time engaged in only the mundane. The choice is ours. Then there are individuals who confuse personal egoism or physical desire with Cosmic Guidance….

In looking over these events, I can see how trouble many members were about the disturbing conditions in AMORC and the challenges to the authority of the Imperator. But for me, the issue of the Cosmic Guidance for AMORC remains my greatest issue- before and after the deposition of Gary Stewart. I contend here, as I did in The Prisoner of San Jose and in AMORC UNMASKED that the entire organization- its history, its teachings, its lineage is built on seducing prospective members with the acquisition of occult powers through Communion with Divine Presence. I challenge all of that- so these questions of internal disruption are a tiny speck overshadowed by the looming presence of a much larger mantle of deception.
